BIOGRAPHY
 
C. Clifford Barnard was born in New York in 1916. In Rye his family lived at 28 Elmwood Ave and were members of the Presbyterian Church. Clifford served as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

Miss Kathryn E. Norton Engaged to Lt. C. Clifford Barnard, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. John H. Gividen of Wabash, Ind. , formerly of Westport, Conn. , have announced The engagement of their daughter, Kathryn Elinor Norton, to Lieut, jg. C. Clifford Barnard, Jr. , U. S. C. G. R. , son Of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Barnard, 43 Elmwood Avenue, Rye. Miss Norton attended the University Of Indiana and is a member of Alpha Chi Omega and Tri-Kappa sororities. Lieut. Barnard, formerly active in Brunhwick School and Rye High School activities, attended the College of Engineering of the University of Iowa and the School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance, New York University, and is a member of Theta Tau fraternity. He is a graduate of the Reserve Officers School of the United States Coast Guard Academy and is at present assigned to the U. S. Naval Training Center, Miami, Fla. Lieut. Barnard was Formerly an employee of the U. S. Trust Co. , 45 Wall Street, New York City. No date has been set for the wedding.

C. Clifford Barnard, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Ashlar Village, Wallingford. Born in New York City on August 13, 1916, Mr. Barnard grew up in Rye, N.Y. and was a longtime resident of Stratford and Milford. He was the husband of 63 years to Kathryn Norton Barnard. Clifford attended Rye High School, The University of Iowa for Engineering and New York University for Accounting. He also attended the United States Coast Guard Officers Training School, and was a lieutenant in the Coast Guard during World War II. He was involved in accounting, sales and general management for many years, not retiring until he was in his 80s. He also enjoyed studying English History, and creating and exhibiting scrimshaw. In addition to his wife, Kathryn, he is survived by three daughters, Susan Vincent and her husband, Taylor of Fairfield, Betsy Sages and her husband, Ronald of Greenwich and Deborah Brinsko and her husband, Edward of Monroe; five grandchildren, Barnard Ross Vincent, Laurie Sages, Patti Sages, Rebecca Brinsko and Jennifer Brinsko. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, Wallingford.
