George Faunce

George Faunce was born Jan 23 1926 in Pittsburgh to George and Helen Faunce. He had three younger sisters Sally, Nancy and Madeline. In Rye his family lived at 6B Hidden Spring Lane. George was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1943.

George served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant during War II and the Korean War. In 1945, the Navy Muster Rolls shows he was part of the crew on the USS Wilmette. George would remain in the USN Reserves until April 20,1959. (See Resignation Letter)

George received his bachelors degree in 1947 from Princeton University in New Jersey where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He also graduated from New York University School of Law.

He married Sally Van Kleeck Swift on June 18, 1949, in Poughkeepsie, New York. They had two children during their marriage.

He retired in 1981 as managing director and chief administrative officer of William M Mercer Cos in New York City. George had been with the employee-benefit consulting firm since 1975 and with its parent company Marsh A McLennan Inc since 1972

He was a former chairman of the Princeton University Alumni Association. He was a member of the Apawamis Club in Rye, the American Yacht Club in Rye and the University Club and Princeton Club both of New York City. He was a former trustee of the Bowery Sayings Bank



George Faunce III a lifelong Rye resident died Saturday January 8, 1994 of complications from diabetes at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, He was 67

At the time of his death he was survived by his wife Sally Swift Faunce of Rye, a son Theodore-Swift Faunce of Alexandria Va, a daughter Rebecca F McDermott of Rye, three sisters Sarah Faunce of New York City, Nancy Hariett of Wellesley Mass and Madeleine Kosonen of Pembroke Mass and five grandchildren
