James M. Gargan

James M. Gargan was born February 11, 1921 in Port Chester to Michael and Hanna Ormiston Gargan. He had two brothers John and Thomas. In Rye his family lived at 100 Grace Church St and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

James was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1939 and Dickson College in Pennsylvania. Before the war he was working for First National Stores, Inc. in Larchmont , NY.

James M. Gargan, Sr. served in the United States Navy during World War II as a warrant Officer. He married Anna Louise Zyla on September 28, 1946 in Shamokin, PA. They had five children during their marriage.

James was in sales for 23 years, retiring in 1983 from Campbell Soup Company Pepperidge Farm Division. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester, a member of the Port Chester American Legion, Central Veterans Association, Catholic Institute of Food Industry, Sales Executive Club of New York, Port Chester Lions, Elks, 40/40 Club, Knights of Columbus, Grocery Manufacturers Association and the New York Knights of the Grip.

James M. Gargan, Sr., a resident of Rye Brook, NY, died September 5, 2007. He was 86.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Anna L. Gargan of Rye Brook, NY; sons, James M. Gargan and wife, Jackie of Danbury, CT, John Gargan and wife, Anne of Bellingham, MA, Thomas Gargan of Somers, NY, and William Paul Gargan of Rye Brook, NY; daughter, Anne L. Gargan of El Cajon, CA; grandchildren, Lynne Gargan, Heather Gargan, Scott Gargan, Thomas J. Gargan, and Elizabeth Gargan. He was predeceased by his brothers, John and Thomas Gargan.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Port Chester, NY. Interment followed at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Rye Brook, NY.
