John S. Armstrong was born in Washington in 1915. In Rye his family lived at 14 Park Lane. John enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

PAGE FOUR THE RYE CHRONICLE Friday, February 11, 19 H Rye Men Leaving for Army Service Fourteen Rye men were in the group of Army selectees that left this morning from Mamaroneck railroad station following brief ceremonies at 8:30 at the headquarters of Draft Board 750 in Barry Avenue school. Friends and relatives went to Mamaroneck for the send-off and there were a number of Rye officials in the gathering. The Rye men included: George W. Adams, 14 Oakland Gardens; Theodore S. Bassett, 400 Park Avenue; Frank Carpenter, Jr. , 22 Park Lane; Peter DiCarlo, formerly 378 Midland Avenue; Samuel P. Gagliardo, 232 Central Avenue; Vincent L. lanniello, 2 High Street; William A. Lang, Jr. , Westchester Beach Club: Arnold J. Manning, formerly 12 Bulkley Place; Joseph V. OBrien, 46 Locust Avenue; Joseph R. Pace, 72 High Street; Graham W. Rundle, 3 Dearborn Avenue; Robert C. Sibley, 567 Milton Road; Leonard J. Verrilli, 72 High Street; Arthur S. Walter, 498 Midland Avenue. Pierce P. Savage, 60 Orchard Avenue, left for camp on January 21. Rye men accepted by the Navy, who left on January 21, include: John S. Armstrong, 14 Park Lane; Emidee DiLenardo, 62 Cedar Place; Percival L Ferris, formerly 661 Milton Road; Adrian J. VanHassteren, 47 Adelaide Street. Charles A. Lane, North Street, is on furlough until February 12. Edward C, Bancroft, 2 Adelaide Street, and John Williams, formerly 5 Mendota Avenue, are leaving on February 15.

John S. Armstrong, 81, a retired superintendent, died Saturday, Feb. 15, at Holmes Regional Medical Center. ;j Mr. Armstrong was born in Seattle. He came to Brevard County in 1973 from Rye, N.Y. i , He worked for Westchester Joint Waterworks in Mamaronek, N.Y. Mr. Armstrong was a lifelong member and ex-chief of the Halstead Manor Fire Company in Mamaronek. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion of Larchmont, N.Y. ' .; Survivors include his sons, John Armstrong of Rochester, N.Y., and William Armstrong of Melbourne; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. , Services are at 2:30 p.m. today at , Florida Memorial Funeral Home, north of Melbourne. Burial will be in Florida Memorial Gardens.
