John Sammel

John Sammel was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 19, 1926 to John J. and Blanche Hardenburgh Sammel. He had one sister, Blanche and two brothers Richard and Roger. The family moved to Rye in 1941 and they lived at 2 Dearborn Avenue.

John was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1944. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

In 1944 John married Ruth Robinson and they had one child.

He was drafted into Army Air Force in 1945, serving with the Ninth Air Force.

He rose to the rank of corporal and served with European occupation forces. He was honorably discharged in 1947.

In 1951 John both joins and works for the National Guard in White Plains. He trained the weekend warriors.

In 1964 he moved to Vermont and became a farmer. In 1970 he moved to NH and got into construction.

As of 2012 he was still working in the construction industry.
