Peter Joseph McDonnell

Peter Joseph McDonnell was born on June 7, 1911, in Connecticut to Eleanor "Nellie" Jane Ahearn, age 22, and Michael Augustine McDonnell, age 23. He was educated in Rye public schools. In Rye his family lived at 25 Goldwin St and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

Peter married Mary Jane Whyte in Rye, New York, on February 9, 1931, when he was 19 years old.



Peter enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Accepted at the same time for the Navy were Thomas A. DelVal, 382 Midland Avenue; Walter Keys, 56 Cedar Place; Peter J. McDonnell, 2 Hawthorne Place; Edwin T. Perry, Greenwich, formerly 38 New Street; Francis M. Ryan, 15 School Street. There will be a short ceremony, Saturday, December 18, at 8:40 a. m. at the Selective Service Boards office, Barry Avenue School, Mamaroneck, before the men board the 9:27 train.

Peter was a member of the Rye Golf Club, the Rye Police Association, the Westchester County Police Benevolent Association, Poningo Hook and Ladder Co. of the -Rye-Fire Department. He was a charter member of the Westchester County Golf Association and the West Texas Pro-Amateur Golf Association.

As a member of the Church of the Resurrection he was secretary of the CYO bowling club a charter member of the Dad' Club and the Holy Name Society.

Peter Joseph McDonnell died on April 17, 1971, in Rye, New York, when he was 59 years old.

In addition to his wife he was survived by a daughter Maura McDonnell, three sons Kevin Patrick of Las Cruces N M, Patrolman Daniel J.of the Rye Police Department and Stephen A. in the U. S. Navy in Vietnam and six grandchildren.

He was also survived by his stepmother Eleanor Healy McDonnell of Rye two brothers Walter and John McDonnell of Fishkill, three sisters Mrs. William' (Dorothy) Murphy of Rye, Mrs. Edward (Edna) Maloney of Trenton NJ, Mrs. Lincoln (Bernadette) Burgess of Rye and an aunt Mrs. William Voegel.
