William F Gill was born in New York in 1917. In Rye his family lived at 43 Adelaide Street. William enlisted in 1940 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

U. S. Army Base in South Pacific. � In The Villain meets the Gal a musical show on the recently taken New Georgia Island. The gal is Sergt. William Gill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Gill, 43 Adelaide Street, Rye, while staring her in the eye is Sergt. Graydon Houghton of Brattleboro, Vt. In a letter received this week by his parents, Sergt. Gill said the show was called Munda Follies and toured the outlying islands for two weeks. It was presented before the casts own company on New Years Eve. Sergt. Gill has been in the service three years and overseas for the past eighteen months. He left from Greenwich with a National Guard unit under the command of Col. George Hill. Friday, January 21, 1944
