Kenneth L. Cook was born on July 10, 1931, and he was born in New York. In 1940, he lived in Harrison, New York with his parents, Harold H. L. Cook and Nellie E. Cook and his three siblings, Nellie L. Cook, Harold Cook, and Bruce A. Cook. His father was the head of the household and worked as a painter and his mother was the homemaker. They lived at 201 North Street. While at Rye High School, he ran track. He graduated from Rye High School in 1949. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Midway.
