Paul T. Drummond


Paul T. Drummond was born 12 Nov 1926 to Clarence and Elsie Drummond. His Family including brother Ray and sister Claire lived at 46 Sanford St. in Rye, New York. Rye was a small town with a population of 9,865. Paul's father rented this home for $40/month ($760 in today’s dollars).

Ages in 1940, At the age of 13, Paul was a middle child. Paul's father was 44 and his mother was 42. Paul's father had an elementary education, while his mother had a high school education and Paul was in elementary school. Paul's father and mother were born in New York. Most of the children, including Paul were born in New York. The census worker recorded Paul's father's occupation as a Painting Contractor. In 1939, he earned $1,500 ($28,500 in today’s dollars) and worked 28 weeks of the year.

Paul was a Rye High School graduate, Class of 1944. He served as an offices in the US Navy and attended training at the Merchant Marine Academy during WWII.

Paul Drummond Cadet Midshipman
Paul T Drummond son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Drummond, 46 Sanford Street, Rye, has been appointed a cadet midshipman for officer training in the U S Merchant Marine Cadet Corps it was learned today. Drummond has been assigned to the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point N Y for four months preliminary training following which he will serve a minimum of six months as a deck cadet midshipman aboard merchant ships delivering vital war supplies to the far flung battle fronts. After completing his sea time he will return to the Academy for 12 months advanced training. Upon graduation he will be qualified to serve' as a third officer in the Merchant Marine. He is a 1944 graduate of the Rye High School.

After the war, Paul married Joan M McGill in 1952 in Worcester, Massachusetts. They had four children during their marriage. He died on November 8, 2001, in Scituate, Massachusetts, at the age of 74, and was buried there.

Drummond of San Antonio, TX, Sandra D. Renner of Cincinnati, OH, Peter H. Drummond and Mark A Drummond both of Indianapolis, IN. Brother of Claire Sentar of New Bern, NC. Also survived by grandchildren Christopher R. Renner, Nathan M,, Riley M., Joseph M., Elizabeth M., and Peter T.L, Drummond.

A service will be held at the Richardson-Garrey F.H., 382 First Parish Rd, Scltuate (Off Rt 3A near police station) on Mon. Nov. 12 at 3pm. interment will be private. Those who wish may remember Paul through donations in his name to Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Bay State Dr, Braintree, MA. 021B5-9060, Scituate Maritime Museum, PO Box 276 Scituate, MA 02066.
