Born on the winter solstice of 1930, December 21st to be exact, John B. Holmes was the second son of a young couple, born in the hard conditions of the great depression. He lived at 100 Grace Church St, and went to Rye High School, graduating in 1949. He was a studious young man, going to both Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, and later studying at Cornell after the war. He served with the U.S. navy in the Korean war, and went on to live a happy life, marrying his wife, Diane Draddy on the 29th of November, 1959. He and his family stayed in Rye, and his descendants continue to be part of our community, one even works as a hockey coach for Rye High School.
