John T Schmidt was born on April 19, 1927, in New York, his father, Arthur, was 29 and his mother, Charlotte, was 24. He had three brothers. He died on February 24, 1998, in Palm Coast, Florida, at the age of 70. In Rye his family lived at 5 York Avenue. John enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A memorial service will be tomorrow for John T. "Jack" Schmidt, a former Westchester resident who died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Ormond (Fla) Memorial Hospital. He was 70.

He was born April 19, 1927, in Mamaroneck to Arthur and Charlotte Johnson Schmidt He grew up in Harrison and graduated from Harrison High School in 1945.

He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Schmidt married Arlene Becker June 7, 1953, at Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle. His wife died in 1982. He was a manager at New York Telephone Co. for 30 years. After residing in Harrison, Mr. Schmidt lived in Thornwood and Hawthorne for 25 years. He moved to Palm Coast, Fla, nine years ago.

He is survived by a son, John T. Jr. of Palm Coast; a daughter, Joanne Toth of Palm Coast; a sister, Charlotte Gross of Blauvelt; a brother, Arthur of Franklin, N.C.; and three grandsons. Visitation is tomorrow evening at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarry-town, where a funeral service starts at 8 p.m. tomorrow.

Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Mount Pleasant . Memorial donations may be sent to .
