  Harold Houghton Hollister
Harold H. Hollister was born on the first of June in 1923 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., the son of Harold E. and Christie (White) Hollister. He woluld be the eldest of four children.
His younger siblings included two brothers, Richard and Walter, and a sister Jane. Harold and his family lived at 50 Oakwood Avenue in Rye, New York and were members of the Presbyterian Church.
 Rye was a small town with a population of 9,865. His father was the Dean of Boys at Rye High School, where Harold graduated in 1940, Summa Cum Laude.
Harold was an active student, part of the National Honor Society, Junior Citizens Council, Stagecoach staff, school assemblies and President of his homeroom, along with being an avid participator in school clubs including the drivers’, french, self-reliant and radio clubs. His leadership and energy extended onto the sports field, where he was Captain of the Tennis Team, Junior Coach to the Class Basketball Team, and a football player.
Harold attended Middlebury college in Vermont and graduated in 1944 with a degree in Physics. He enlisted on 19 Jul 1944 in the US Navy serving from 1944 to 1946, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. (See Discharge Record)
After his discharge, Harold graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1948 with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of the Honorary Engineering Society Tau Beta Pi. Harold met and married Mary Ellen McCann in 1951. He worked as a field engineer for Sperry Rand in Ohio and specialized in navigational flight equipment. He and his wife started Cherrybend Pheasant Farm near Wilmington, Ohio in 1954. Together they operated the pheasant hunting preserve for over 50 years and, at one time, it was the largest hunting preserve of its kind in Ohio. Harold loved flying and was proud to be the owner-operator of Hollister Field, an airstrip for light planes. He enjoyed farming, golfing and hunting and excelled at all sports.

At the time of his death he was survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ellen (McCann) Hollister; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret ''Peggy'' Hollister, M.D. and David Sauter of Canandaigua; two grandchildren, Charles Houghton Sauter and Jean Hollister Sauter; brother, Walter (Sally) Hollister of Massachusetts; and sister, Jane (Robert) Nicodemus of Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his daughter, Jean Katherine Hollister, M.D. in 1985; and brother, Richard P. Hollister.
Harold's Cherrybend Pheasant Farm still operates today as one of the largest Pheasant preserves in Ohio.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ellen (McCann) Hollister; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret ''Peggy'' Hollister, M.D. and David Sauter of Canandaigua; two grandchildren, Charles Houghton Sauter and Jean Hollister Sauter; brother, Walter (Sally) Hollister of Massachusetts; and sister, Jane (Robert) Nicodemus of Pennsylvania. Mr. Hollister and his wife moved to Canandaigua in 2006. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, December 27, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 58 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Sabina Cemetery, Sabina, Ohio, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church, 58 N. Main St., Canandaigua, NY 14424.
