BIOGRAPHY

Robert M. Mullins

Robert M. Mullins, Jr. was born on Sept. 16, 1927, at United Hospital. In Rye his family lived at 83 Orchard Ave. Robert was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1945. Bob enlisted in the United States Navy the day after graduation and served his country in the Pacific during World War II.

Assigned to troopcarrier USS Olmstead APA-188 , he was a Seaman 3rd Class and was discharged August of 1946. USS Olmsted (APA-188) was a Haskell-class attack transport that saw service with the US Navy for the task of transporting troops to and from combat areas. She was of the VC2-S-AP5 Victory ship design type. Olmsted was named for Olmsted County, Minnesota.

Afterwards, Bob graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY, in 1950 with a Bachelor of Business Administration, where he was a member of the Gaelic Society. Bob's professional career included a banking institution, Sinclair Oil Corporation and Shell Oil Company, from which he retired.

Bob wed his sweetheart, Joan Catherine McAneny, on December 26, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York, after meeting her at Rye Beach. Taking long walks beside the ocean became a lifelong favorite pastime. Bob and Joan moved to Houston with their four children in 1971 where he became an avid Houston Astros fan, a parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Catholic church where he volunteered many years at the Food Pantry, and drove for the Shepherd Park Plaza Neighborhood Patrol.

Bob's two most important passions were his family and his faith. Beach vacations to Destin, Florida and Christmas holidays in Houston, both with the entire extended family, were the highlights Bob most looked forward to during the year.

He will be remembered as kind, gentle, patient, with a wry sense of humor, a loving father, generous and proud grandfather, and faithful friend.

Robert Michael Mullins, Jr. (''Bob''), passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on September 12, 2017 in Houston, Texas, just four days shy of his 90th birthday.
