Charles W. Rockett

Charles ''Chuck'' W. Rockettwas born December 25, 1925 in New York City to Helen Marguerite Whitlock, age 27, and Harold Challinor Rockett, age 27. . In Rye his family lived at 67 Halsted Pl. Chuck was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1943.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Ensign Rockett is nineteen years old and was commissioned early in March at Midshipman's School, Notre Dame University. He was graduated in 1943 from Rye High School. That year he entered Cornell University in February and continued there under V-12 pre-medical program for two years. He is now at Line Officers School. Miami, Fla.

From 1945 TO 1948, Ensign U. S. Navy, USS Gladiator AM-319. USS Gladiator (AM-319) was an Auk-class minesweeper acquired by the U.S. Navy for the dangerous task of removing mines from minefields laid in the water to prevent ships from passing.

Chuck served on the USS Missouri BB-63 1947 to 1950. USS Missouri (BB-63) is an Iowa-class battleship built for the United States Navy (USN) in the 1940s and is currently a museum ship. Completed in 1944, she is the last battleship commissioned by the United States.

He celebrated 35 years of sobriety with the fellowship of A.A. Chuck's main interest was working with Genealogy, not only for his family, but for others; he volunteered for A.A./ N.C.C.O. for many years. He also had a passion for golf and was an avid fan of the Padres and Chargers.



LCDR Charles ''Chuck'' W. Rockett, USN, (Ret.), was relieved of watch on Thursday, May 12, 2011.

He was survived by his wife, Jean Naef Rockett; daughters, Kathy Allen, Linda Rockett, Terri Rockett, and Peggi Armitstead; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A Memorial service was held Saturday, May 21, 2011 at San Marcos Lutheran Churc, San Marcos, Calif.
