Knute Salhus was born on October 23, 1912, in Avaldsnes, Rogaland, Norway. He had three sons and two daughters with Marcella Syra Dempsey. He died on November 16, 1970, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, at the age of 58.In Rye he lived on Stuyvesant Avenue. Knut enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Knut Salhus, 57, of New Bedford, Mass., died Tuesday in Union Hospital there after a long illness. He formerly lived at 10 Park Lane, Rye, and was employed as launch operator at the American Yacht Club.

Since moving from Rye, he has been a commercial fisherman out of New Bedford. He came to Rye at age 16. Born Oct. 23, 1912, in Avald> >s , Norway, son of Lars and In er Salhus, he was married to the former Marcella Dempsey of Rye 1941; his wife died in 1961. He was a member of the Sons of Norway in Valhalla; and was parishioner of Lutheran Church New Bedford. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, where he served three years during World War

He is survived by four children Stephen K. Salhus of White Plains Mary U. Salhus and Knut J. Salhus of 10 Park Lane, Rye; and Marcella D. Salhus of New Bedford, Ma.
