BIOGRAPHY
 
Philip C. Mertz was born in New York in 1912. In Rye his family lived at 27 Mohawk Street. Philip served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Philip C. Mertz a former resident of Rye, died in South Miami, Fla., on Sunday. December 3 after an extended illness.

Mr. Mertz graduated from Yale, Class of 1935 where he was a member of the Fence Club and Wolf's Head Society. Prior to serving as an officer in the Navy during World War II, he lived on Mohawk Street in Rye.

While a resident of Rye, Mr. Mertz was a member of the American Yacht Club and was an outstanding sailor in the local regatta* and on long distance ocean races. Following the war, he went into business in Miami and lived in South Miami with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Linda; daughters, Wendy, Linda and Gretchen, and his brother, James C Mertz of Milton Road Rye, and West Pawlet, Vt.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in South Miami.
