Robert T. Harper

Robert T. Harper was born in White Plains, New York, January 7, 1925, son of the late Thomas and Annie (Hamilton) Harper. He had a sister Jessie and in Rye his family lived at 8 School Street.

Robert was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1942 and attended Pratt Institute. In high school he was an exceptional athlete starring in baseball and captain of the basketball team.

He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Mary L. Marshall November 23, 1955 and the couple had four children.



After the war, Bob was an engineer with Lycoming Industries in Stratford.

Bob was a fifteen year member of the Federal Lodge 17 AF & AM in Watertown. He was an avid sports enthusiast and loved golfing.

Robert Thomas Harper of Farmington, beloved husband of Bertha Agnes (Tuthill) Smith Harper passed away peacefully Thursday, (August 2, 2012).

Besides his wife, Robert was survived by his four children, Donald L. Smith and his wife Judith of Watertown, Lynda S. Veleas of Farmington, Barbara-Jean Fitting and her husband Jeff of Barkhamsted and Denise MacGregor and her husband Thomas of Ivoryton, one sister Jessie Harper of Rye, New York, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as ''Great Guy''.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 6 at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main Street, Unionville, followed by the Masonic service.
