Mary T. Beary

When Mary Theresa Beary was born on June 11, 1906, in Rye, New York, her father, Daniel, was 36, and her mother, Sophia, was 29. In Rye her family lived at 75 Purchase St and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Mary was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1925. She graduated from Beaver College for Women and earned a Masters Degree from New York University. Mrs. Allphin worked as a School Teacher for White Plains Public Schools for twelve years before retiring.

On November 10, 1942, at the age of 35, she enlisted in the Army to serve in World War II. Mary served in the Army from 1942 to 1955, attaining the rank of Major. She belonged to American Legion Post #128 in Rye. In 1950, she married Lt. Col. Wayne Allphin in Germany. Mrs. Mary Beary Allphin was a life-long resident of Rye.


Mary T. Beary Commissioned

Mary Theresa, Beary, of 175 Purchase Street, has been commissioned a Third Officer in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps. She was selected for officer training on the basis of her ability and record as an auxiliary in the WAAC. Third Officer is the WAAC equivalent of Second Lieutenant, The commission was granted at the First WAAC Training Center, Fort Des Moines, Iowa.

Mary Beary Allphin, of Rye, died December 26, 2001 at United Hospital in Port Chester. She was ninety-five. Mrs. Allphin worked as a School Teacher for White Plains Public Schools for twelve years before retiring. Mrs. Allphin was born June 11, 1906 in Rye to Daniel H. and Sophia Burns Beary. She was educated in Rye and graduated from Rye High School in 1925. She graduated from Beaver College for Women and earned a Masters Degree from New York University.

Mrs. Allphin served in the Army from 1942 to 1955, attaining the rank of Major. She belonged to American Legion Post #128 in Rye. In 1950, she married Lt. Col. Wayne Allphin in Germany. Mrs. Allphin was a life-long resident of Rye.She was predeceased by her husband Lt. Col. Wayne Allphin.
