Albert Gedney was born in New York in 1927. In Rye his family lived at 90 Grapal Street and were members of the Presbyterian Church. Albert enlisted and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

Albert Gedney passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 18, 2017. He was 89 years old. Born on November 12, 1927 in Rye, NY, Al was the son of the late Leslie and Elsie (Krietler) Gedney. He lived most of his life in Rye until moving to Saratoga Springs after his retirement in 1993.

Al was a combat Merchant Marine sailor during WWII, having served in the South Pacific in 1944 and 1945. After receiving an honorable discharge, he worked for the Gannet Corporation for 47 years as a newspaper production foreman. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and was an avid conservationist. Al was a longtime member of the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church. He was an all-around great guy who was loved by many.

Survivors include his son, Albert R. (Joanne) Gedney of Gloversville; sister, Barbara Stolle of Somers, NY; grandson, Andrew B. (Michele) David of Manhattan; great-grandchildren, Caroline and William David; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor Gedney; brothers, Leslie A. Gedney and Captain Charles E. "Chick" Gedney; daughter, Wendie J. David; and granddaughter, Emma David.

There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. A reception will follow in the church hall. Donations may be made in Al's memory to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). Online remembrances may be made at www.burkefuneralhome.com.
