Andrew C. Deck was born in New Jersey in 1899. In Rye his family lived on Somerset, New Jersey. Andrew enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Forty-six Year Old Soldier Awarded Bronze Star Medal

Andrew C. Deck, Jr. , of 29 Beck Avenue, Just missed World War I because he was too young; now at forty-six he is overseas and has been awarded the Bronze Star. The citation sent to his wife says it was for special duty in taking a truck convoy up to the front lines in the European Theater under constant enemy fire for four days.

The funeral of Andrew Charles Deck. Jr. fifty-seven, of 29 Beck Avenue, who died Monday at Rosary Hill Hospital. Hawthorne, where he had been a patient for a month, was held this morning from the William H. Graham Funeral Home followed by services at Christ's Church conducted by Rev James C. Walworth, curate. Interment followed at Greenwood Union Cemetery. A fire truck carried the many floral tributes. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Rye Fire Department paid their respects in a body at the Funeral Home Wednesday night.

Born March 1, 1899, in Trenton, N. J., he was the son of the late Andrew and Gertrud e Mount Deck. His wife was the late Gretchen Nunn Deck. Mr. Deck who was a gardener on a private estates, had been a Rye resident since 1938. He was a veteran of World War II and served as staff sergeant with the 3rd Armored Division was a member of Christ's Episcopal Church.

He is survived by a son, Andrew Charles Deck, III of Rye and two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Burke of Somerville, N. J. and Mrs. Jess Fitchler of Red Bank. N. J
