Frank J. Mainiero

Frank John Mainiero was born on March 9, 1923, in Rye, New York, to Lucia Incoronato, age 39, and Giovanni "John" Mainiero, age 41. He had two brothers Frank and Leonard and two sisters Lucy and Josephine. His family came to the United States in 1918 , settling in Rye, where he was raised and educated. In Rye his family lived at 39 High St and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Frank was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1941.

He enlisted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Frank served as a technecian fourth class in the Army's Amphibious Engineers Corps.

Engineer Special Brigades were amphibious forces of the United States Army developed during World War II. Initially designated engineer amphibian brigades, they were redesignated engineer special brigades in 1943.

The 1st, 5th, and 6th Engineer Special Brigades were assigned to the European Theater of Operations. The 1st Engineer Special Brigade participated in the landings in Sicily and Italy before joining the 5th and 6th Engineer Special Brigades for the invasion of Normandy.

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th Engineer Special Brigades were assigned to the Southwest Pacific Area, and participated in the campaigns in the Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon, the Southern Philippines and Borneo campaign.

The 1st Engineer Special Brigade fought in both theaters of the war, participating in the Okinawa campaign near the end of the war.


After completing his military service, he worked for eight years designing charts and graphs for Batten, Barton Durstine and Osborne Inc. an advertising company in Manhattan.



He later worked as a commercial artist for Chartmakers Inc in Manhattan and for the Pepsi Cola Co in Manhattan. For seven years Frank worked as a commercial artist for Almy C M & Son Inc in Rye, before he retired . His brother Leonard said he was really very talented” his brother said “Art was his life" Frank who painted more than 500 paintings framed them all beautifully, espescially enjoyed painting marine' scenes his brother said. Frank also built models of ships and bottles and enjoyed sculpture.

When he was 15 he painted a 21-foot long mural of the industrial revolution for a history class which was mounted by professionals and hung in Rye High School his brother said. Frank was a parishioner of Resuneetion Church in Rye.

Frank John Mainiero, a commercial artist who's lifetime hobby was painting, died Friday of a heart attack at his home in Rye. He was 65 and a lifelong Rye resident.

At the time of his death, In addition to-his brother Leonard of Ormond Beach Fla he is survived by his sister Lucille Ebetino of Rye Another brother Philip F Mainiero and another sister Jose phlne Irillo both died earlier.
