Frank J. Thomson

Frank J. Thomson was born in New York in 1928. In Rye his family lived at 472 Boston Post Road. He had three sisters Eleanor, Evelyn and Loretta and a brother, Kent. In Rye his family lived at 385 Boston Post Rd and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Frank left Rye High School and enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Frank Thomson served with the Navy Seabees.

United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees, form the U.S. Naval Construction Force (NCF). The Seabee nickname is a heterograph of the initial letters "CB" from the words "Construction Battalion".

The Seabees built the infrastructure needed to take the war to Japan. By war's end CBs had, served on six continents, constructed over 300 bases on as many islands.[31] They built everything: airfields, airstrips, piers, wharves, breakwaters, PT & seaplane bases, bridges, roads, com-centers, fuel farms, hospitals, barracks and anything else.

After the war Frank returned to Rye and graduated from Rye High School, Class of 1947. Still only 24 and a stellar baseball player, Frank woujld attend baseball camp in Florida which earned him a tryout for the NY Yankees.


Frank would move on from baseball, attend real estate school and eventually open his own decorating and painting business. He was an avid golfer and member of Rye Golf Club. He also loved to ski and belonged to the Sno-Cat Ski Club.

Frank would marry Carol A. Bloomer at Resurrection Church in the fall of 1966. Later the couple would move and spend many years in West Melbourne FL.

Frank J. Thomson, 88, died on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. The Funeral Mass and burial was held Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in West Melbourne FL
