George Hoppen

George Hoppen was born on July 25, 1927, to Mollie (Malka) Hainch Hirsch Hoppen Grushkin, age 37, and Louis (Leibisch) Hoppen, age 36. He had two older brothers Max and Irving.

In Rye his family lived at 61 Orchard Ave. George was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1944.

He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

George married Leona Simon on June 22, 1952, in Staten Island, New York. They had three children during their marriage.

George and Lee Hoppen of Delray Beach celebrated 50 years of marriage June 23 at a party with family and friends in Long Island, N.Y. Another parry with family and friends was held at Boca Greens in Boca Raton. The Hoppens, who met while square dancing at the 92nd Street YM-YWHA in New York City, were married June 22, 1952, in Brooklyn, N.Y. They moved to Florida in 1979 from North Babylon, N.Y. George Hoppen retired in 1995 as an electronic engineer. Lee Hoppen is semi-retired and works in the medical field. The Hoppens have three children, Heather Campbell, Laurel Roberts and Andrew Hoppen. They also have four .grandchildren.

George Hoppen died on April 17, 2015, in Delray Beach, Florida, at the age of 87.
