BIOGRAPHY
 
George W. Aufderheide was born in Pennsylvania in 1924. In Rye his family lived at 12 Shore Road. George served as an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

George W. Auferdeheide, Jr. was a naval aviator in a Bombing Fighter Squadron during WWII. He was a graduate of the Choate School. When he enlisted in the Armed Forces in 1943 he was a student at Princeton University.

George W. Aufderheide, Jr., of Fairfield, a retired executive at Granitville & Company in New York, died Sunday, April 4, at his home. He was 79.Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., son of the late George, Sr. and Margretta Aufderheide, he had been a Fairfield resident for the last five years, and lived in Wilton and Weston prior to that.

A graduate of the Choate School, he attended Princeton University, and later served as a naval aviator in a Bombing Fighter Squadron during World War II.Mr. Aufderheide spent his entire career in the textile industry and was instrumental in the development of permanent press fabrics and Scotchguard, and mentioned in ''Who's Who.''He was a dedicated alumnus of Choate, and an active fund-raiser.

Survivors include his wife, Gayle L. Aufderheide of Fairfield; eight children, Suzi of Ashland, Ore., Dutch and his wife Julia of Fairfield, Tommy of Florida, Steve and his wife Barbara of Florida, John of Ojai, Calif., Amy of New Haven, Andy of Middletown and Will of Fairfield; three stepchildren, Scott Rochlin and his wife Lucretia of Westport, Matt Rochlin and his wife Sachi of Easton and Samantha Kilcoyne and her husband Scott of Fairfield; 24 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Aufderheide; a daughter, Aki; and sister, Peggy Simon.

A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. at First Church Congregational, corner of Old Post Road, and Beach Road, Fairfield, with the Rev. David Spollett, pastor, officiating. Interment will be private. The family will greet friends today from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Spear Funeral Home 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield

J. and 7 ISpier Ave., Allenhurt, and George W. Aufderheide, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Aufderheide, Green-haven, Rye, N. Y. and 216 Monmouth Ave., this borough will. take place next Monday in the Ladies Chapel, St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York. There will be a reception following the ceremony at "Sherry's." Miss Hinchcliffe a graduate of Lacordaire school, Montclair, N. J. attended Marymount College. . Mr. Aufderheide, a graduate of Choate school was attending Princeton University before he entered the navy where he served as an ensign. He has recently been discharged from the) service and has re-entered college.
