Milton B. Shafer

Milton B. Shafer was born in New York September 19, 1925 to Milton and Agatha Brill Shafer. he had one sister Frances and in Rye his family lived at 23 Rosemere Street.

Milton was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1943. In school he played football and belonged to various organizations including the Boxing Club.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Milton was among 667 men commissioned as Ensigns in the United States Naval Reserve on August 23, 1945 in ceremonies held in the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine New York City.

Milton B. Shafer died July 20, 1959 in Siesta Key, FL. He was 33 years old.


Shooting Victim SIESTA KEY - Milton Baxter Shafer, 33, apparently committed suicide yesterday morning by shooting himself in the head with a .38 caliber pistol, according to the sheriff's office. Authorities said Shafer's body was found slumped beneath a tree on Turtle Beach shortly after 10 a.m. by a group of shell collectors. A note found in his pocket read: ''Eyes pain. I'm going to take my life.'' Authorities said Shafer, sports Found On Beach director at the Field Club, was walking with his mother, Mrs M. B. Shafer Jr.. along the key yesterday morning until they got as far as the public beach, when he continued alone on his bicycle Authorities said he apparently rode to Turtle Beach and shot himself shortly after.
