BIOGRAPHY
 
Richard Davidson

RIchard S. Davidson was born in Massachusetts June 10, 1917. He later moved to Rye with his loving family, where they rented a house at 5 Oakwood Ave for $60 a month ($1,144.52 today).

The household consisted of his father Ellis W. Davidson, his mother Mildred Davidson, his younger brother Robert Davidson, and their maid, Stella Simgouski.

Robert’s father was a college educated man, who worked as an editor. Richard’s mom had a high school education, and was a homemaker.

The family were members of the Presbyterian Church and Richard was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1936.

He was an excellent student, who took many honors level classes. While in High school Richard was a member of the National Honors Society.

Richard was known for his interest in music, he was a member of the school orchestra, the school band, and the glee club. Not only did Richard enjoy music, he also enjoyed track and was given the title of Junior coach.

Richard was drafted into the Navy in 1942. Richard eventually became a navy gunners mate and served throughout World War II. He served on the USS Sardonyx PYC12 and the USS Grundy APA 111.

During his service he met his wife, Eleanor Mead Gibson and they were married November 1, 1942.

After being discharged from the Navy, Richard began his career in publishing. He worked for some big companies including Chilton Publishing, and Ahrens Publishing. During his free time Richard would sail and enjoy time out on the water.

Richard passed on August 15, 1989, and was survived by his wife and four children Richard Jr., Andrew, Elizabeth, and Barbara.
