Robert E. Drummond

Robert E. Drummond was born Nov. 23, 1924, to Arthur and Mary Jane Drummond. He had two brothers Arthur and Donald and two sisters Ruth and Betty.

In Rye his family lived at 18 Elmwood Ave and were members of the Presbyterian Church. Donald attended Milton Grammar School in Rye and was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1942.

Robert enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enlisted in March of 1943 and served in the Pacific Theatre. Robert served as a corporal in the Army's Quartermasters Corps

Robert E. Drummond married Roberta Marie Weeks in Rye, New York, on September 25, 1954, when he was 29 years old. They would have four children during their marriage.

Robert had attended Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., where he studied mechanical and electrical engineering while working summers at Brailsford & Company in Rye. He worked in the machine shop at Brailsford, eventually becoming chief engineer and general manager.

In 1984, he took over as president and CEO of the company, which designed and manufactured miniature motors and pumps for a variety of industries. Retiring in 2002, he relocated to Hancock, with his wife, where he spent his last years enjoying small town life in rural New England.

Robert Edward Drummond, 84, died Feb. 2, 2009, at Cheshire Memorial Hospital in Keene, ME. He was a resident of Rye, N.Y., for more than 75 years.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife of 21 years, Bonnie Drummond of Hancock; a sister, Ruth Thomas of Southbury, Conn.; three sons, Robert Drummond Jr. of Hillsborough, David Drummond of Port Chester, N.Y., and Jonathan Drummond of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; a daughter, Kristin Spicer of Walls, Miss.; a stepdaughter, Beth Vacco of Pembroke; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
