Sally Olmsted Weeks

Sally Dolores Olmsted Weeks was born in New York July 29, 1924 eldest daughter of William Ramon Olmsted and Dorothy Matilda Jenkins Olmsted . She had one brother William and a sister Mary and in Rye her family lived at 223 Oakland Beach Avenue. Sally was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1942. She enlisted and served in the Nurses Cadet Corps during World War II.

She was the eldest daughter of William Ramon Olmsted and Dorothy Matilda Jenkins Olmsted of Rye, NY. Sally was a life long resident of Rye, attended Milton School, Rye Grammar School and graduated from Rye High School in 1942. She attended and graduated Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing in 1945.

She served in the Nurses Cadet Corps from 1945 -1946. She worked in various capacities as and RN in the ER, OR and her favorite, Obstetrics at Greenwich Hospital.

Sally married Charles George Weeks of Rye, NY on July 22, 1946, after he returned wounded, from service in the Pacific theater, during WWII.

Sally served in numerous hospitals and capacities from Akron, OH to Lynwood, CA back to Greenwich, CT; as well as a school nurse in the Rye City School District, Resurrection School, Sacred Heart Academy in Greenwich, CT, The Hommocks School in Mamaroneck, NY and Playland Park and Playland Ice Rink in Rye, NY.

Sally took on various rolls in the community while raising her family of 4 children, working nights at Greenwich Hospital and as a private duty nurse. Active in the Rye Presbyterian Church as a deacon, numerous times, Sunday school teacher and parishioner for over 70 years. She was also an active member of the Rye High School Mother’s Guild and a Girl Scout leader.

Sally was an honorary member of the Hudson River Patriots Chapter and a former Regent of the Ruth Lyon Bush Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as, numerous other rolls within those chapters, where she was a member for over 50 years.

Sally was an avid swimmer and lover of the beaches of Long Island Sound. She loved to read, garden, travel and do genealogical research of our rich American history. She especially loved watching her grandchildren play any kind of sport, musicals, dance recitals everything. She never missed any single one of them. She was known to be extremely sharp and knowledgeable in many facets of life.

Sally Olmsted Weeks passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 2, 2020 just shy of her 96th birthday. She passed onto her final journey, in the home her husband, Charles Gorge Weeks built for her in 1964, surrounded by loved ones.

She will be deeply missed, by her children, Steven Weeks (pre-deceased), Judith Weeks-Padgett of Greenwich, CT, Susan Weeks Little (Jeffrey) of Port Chester, NY and William Weeks of Rye, NY. Her younger sister, Mary Olmsted Toohy of Manchester Center, VT, survives her, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. She greatly enjoyed her 6 grand children, Steven Padgett (Brandy) of Brewer, ME, Johnathan Padgett (Jennifer) of Bridgeport, CT, David Padgett (Joanna) of Hampstead, NC, Sarah, Charles and Theodore Little, all of Port Chester NY. And, 3 soon to be 4, great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Shanice Davis for all her support and her tender loving care of Sally for 4 years. As well as, Kelly Saulnier RN, who was a constant support, both emotionally and physically for the family throughout her arduous journey. Her legacy lives on.

A graveside service and internment was held on Saturday June 6, 2020 at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
