BIOGRAPHY
 
Theodore Dunn


Theodore Dunn was born on November 14, 1913, in Gloucester, Massachusetts, to Helen Mansfield Procter, age 28, and Theodore Ira Dunn, age 27. He had one sister, Janet, and in Rye his family lived at 7 Ridgewood Drive and were members of Christ Church.

Theodore was raised in Rye, where he attended Rye Country : Day School. He also attended Brunswick School in Greenwich and Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., where he played ice hockey.

Theodore worked for the Office of Price Administration in Washington, D.C., before joining the Navy during World War II. He served as an aircraft intelligence officer on the USS Teton in the Pacific and was involved in the Invasion of Okinawa.

On March 27, 1945, Teton got underway as flagship of Task Unit 51.13.1 and arrived off Okinawa on April 1, the day the assault began. She remained there for 72 days controlling the landing operations on the Hagushi beaches and then providing standby control of offensive and defensive air operations.

Theodore was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946. (See Discharge Record for Awards)

On December 14, 1952, he married Marlice Latimer in Seattle and they had three children and the family lived in Arcadia, Calif.,

Theodore worked in sales for Port Chester based Russell, Burdsall & Ward. He was a salesman for the bolt and nut manufacturer in Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles before moving back to Rye as general sales manager.

Theodore I. Dunn Jr. of Rye, retired general sales manager for Russell, Burdsall & Ward Co., died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997, at Greenwich, CT., Hospital.

He was survived by his wife, three daughters; Linda Dunn of Newport Beach, Calif.; Sharia Scharpnick of Irvine, Calif., and Heidi Meadows of Moreno Valley, Calif and six grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at Rye Presbyterian Church.
