William C. Carroll


William Curtis Carroll was born on March 19, 1917, in New York, New York, to Dorothy Galbrath Smith, age 32, and Ralph Clatworthy Carroll, age 34. He had four brothers; James, Livingston, Ralph and John.

In Rye his family lived on Hilltop Place and were members of Christ's Church. William was graduated from Wesleyan university in Middletown, CT.

William enlisted on June 5, 1941, when he was 24 years old and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He attended Gunnery school in Washington Conn and served more than a year in the Panama Canal Zone. Afterward, Corporal Carroll was stationed with the Fifth Infantry Training regiment at Camp Gordon, GA.

He married Julianna Neel on June 15, 1945, in Mecklenburg, North Carolina. They were married in the Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, N. C.

The Rev. C.C.. McClure, pastor of the church performed the ceremony in the presence of the families of the bride and groom. They would have one child during their marriage.

By 1950, William was working as a bank teller and the family was living in Stamford , CT

William Curtis Carroll died on July 10, 1998, in Sharon, Connecticut, at the age of 81. He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Litchfield, CT.
