BIOGRAPHY Extended Information

Danny Mangini

Early Life

Danny Mangini, also recorded as Daniel Mangini, was born on July 7, 1886, in Italy. He was part of the wave of Italian immigrants who came to the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, seeking economic opportunity and stability. Like many immigrants of this period, he settled in the Rye and Port Chester area, where growing industry and estate employment provided steady work.

By the time of his military service, Mangini was residing on Forest Avenue in Rye, New York. His life reflected the experience of many working-class immigrant families who established themselves in Westchester County, contributing to the local economy while maintaining strong ties to their cultural origins.

World War I Service

Mangini entered service in the United States Army on January 8, 1917, at Port Chester, New York. He served as a Private and was assigned to Company H, 326th Infantry Regiment, part of the 82nd Division, a unit organized for service during World War I.

Earlier in his service, he was also associated with Company E, 307th Infantry Regiment, before being transferred to the 326th Infantry. These units were part of the Army’s rapid expansion as it prepared forces for deployment during the war.

Despite being assigned to a division that ultimately served overseas, Mangini did not serve overseas and saw no combat action. He sustained no wounds or injuries during his service.

He was honorably discharged on February 23, 1918, after a period of stateside service.

Life After Service

Following his discharge from the Army, Mangini returned to civilian life in New York. While detailed records of his occupation are limited, he remained part of the local community of Rye and the surrounding area.

Danny Mangini died on June 28, 1964, at the age of 77. He was buried at St. Charles Cemetery in Dover Plains, New York.

At the time of his death, available records do not identify surviving family members by name.
