Paul E. Hechney Jr was born on November 19, 1931 and lived at 9 Glendale Avenue Rye, NY. He was the son of Paul E. Hechney and Dorothy Hechney as well as the brother to Bickford. He was raised in Rye, New York and went to school in Connecticut at Kent High School. There, he played ice hockey and was a member of the crew team. After high school, he received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Officers Training School as a lieutenant and served as a tank commander in the Army's 3rd Armored Division at Fort Knox, Ky.
