John Kyle Orr

John Kyle Orr was born on February 20, 1907, in Closter New Jersey to Elizabeth Elwood Connolly, age 24, and Joseph Kyle Orr, age 27. He was raised and educated in Yonkers

John married Jean Muirhead in 1929 and they had one son and one daughter. The marriage would end in divorce in 1941.

In 1930, John was working in Rye for E. Bird Kelly in real estate.

E. Bird Kelly, formerly of 307 Halstead Avenue, Harrison, has moved his real estate office to , 171 Boston Post Road, Rye. Mr. Kelly announced today that John Kyle Orr, formerly with the office of Young and, Rubican, New York City, and J. Tetrault of East .Port Chester have become associated with his firm. With the enlargement of his quarters, Mr. Kelly is now developing a mortgage and insurance department.

After a few years in real estate John took classes at Cornell in Hotel management and was hired as a manager at Westchester Country Club. He would spend this rest of his career Managing Hotels and Resorts both before and after the war.

John enlisted September 1, 1942 and served in the US Marine Corps during WWII. He served with the Headquarters Squadron Three Third Marine Aircraft Wing in the Pacific. (See Muster Rolls)

The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) was commissioned in November 1942 and played a vital, "behind-the-scenes" role in World War II by training Marine pilots and support personnel for combat duty in the Pacific. While its primary role was training, some of its units did deploy to the Pacific theater.


He was honorably discharged May 11, 1945. He had married Barbara Bennett on June 17, 1943, in Carteret, North Carolina.

John returned and resumed a very successful business career in Hotel Management. He managed properties in Florida, the Bahama's and Canada. He married Lola Mae Kauffman in June 1969.

John Kyle Orr died on May 21, 1982, in Broward, Florida, at the age of 75, and was buried in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Lola of Pompano Beach; daughter, Mrs. Sandra Garlock, Deerfield Beach; four grandchildren; one great grandchild.
