 Urwin James Magill
Urwin James Magill was born on June 5, 1914, in New York to Mary Eglantine Lawrence, age 24, and Urwin James Magill, age 31. He had two sisters Virginia and Gladys and in Rye his family lived at 48 Elmwood Ave.
Urwin attended New York Military Academy a private, college-preparatory boarding school in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York. At the age of sixteen, while he was attending New York Military Academy, he spent vacation shipping out on the U.S.S. Seafarer, going around the world and stopping, on the way, to visit Tokyo.
Urwin enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant. He joined up early in the war entering the service just after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and was based in California, taking part in- flights to the Pacific, assigned to a medium bomber, before going to Europe in May, 1945.
Lt. Magill Flies Congressmen On Europe Tour Lieutenant Urwin James Magill, Jr., of 243 Park Hill Avenue, after serving as copilot on the plane that few "the chief justice to the war criminal trials in Nuremburg, Germany," now is "flying a group of Congressmen around Europe, he told his mother, Mrs. Mary. Magill, in a recent letter. The "group of Congressmen" are members of the eign Affairs Committee, who are touring Europe and the Middle East, it was learned in an Associated Press dispatch from Berlin.
We are flying a group of congressmen around Europe. At Generals' Hotel In Cannes "Yesterday, we were in Cannes, on the French Riviera. We stayed at a hotel reserved for generals." Here, he wandered from his subject to tell her of the good time he had there -swimming, boating and being served food "fit for kings." "Now, we are on our way to London," he resumed, "and we will return to Paris tomorrow and fly to Berlin the next day.
From Berlin, we are going to Warsaw, Poland, and from there to Moscow. After that, we will go to Bucharest, Belgrade, Istanbul, Cairo, Rome and then to Oran and Casa Blanca. Incidentally, I just found out that we are going also to Budapest, Bagdad, Jerusalem and Athens."

After the war Urwin was a dance instructor.
Magill Again On Randolph Staff Roy Randolph, owner and operator of the dance studio bearing his name, took pleasure this week in announcing the return of Urwin Magill to his staff of teachers in the Village. Magill has just been discharged from the Army Air Force and will start instructions in Samba. Rhumba, Tango and the latest ballroom dances. He has toured South America as a dancer and teacher and has appeared in the movies with Mr. Randolph and also was on his staff at the Ambassador hotel in Los Angeles. He will, assisted by Sally Nagel, also of the Randolph staff, inaugurate a series of "champagne nights" at the most popular night spots in the Village. Mr. Randolph will direct the programs. He married Lillian Kaiser Kienle November 25, 1950, she was tragically killed in an auto accident a year later on November 16, 1951.
Urwin would move on to tour on passenger ships going to Hawaii. He eventually moved back to NY settling in Wantagh, NY.
Urwin James Magill died August 7, 2000 at his home in Wantagh, he was 86.
