 John Lawrence Pool
John Lawrence Pool was born on December 12, 1907, in New York City, New York, to Maud Gordon Slane Fleming and John Lawrence Pool. He was graduated from St. Paul's School, Concord, N. H., and from Princeton University. In Rye his family lived at 21 Club Road.
He prepared at St. Paul's School, where he was a member of the literary society and the scientific society, and also served as sixth-form supervisor. At Princeton, John was a member of the varsity hockey team and rowed on the 150-pound crew, also serving as chairman of the Princeton Photographic Board.
After graduation, John received his, M. D. degree in 1934 from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. John served his internship at the Presbyterian Sloane Hospitals and was a Fellow at the Memorial Hospital.
He married Lydia Patricia Matthews Martin in June 1938 in his hometown. They had three children during their marriage.
He served in numerous hospitals, from Sloan-Kettering to the Tata Cancer Hospital in Mumbia, India (from 1939-42).
John served as a medical officer in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Major John L. Pool, is serving as chief of surgical service with
he 92nd Field Hospital In the Marikina combat area, east of Manila.
A graduate of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, he formerly practiced in Bombay, India and accompanied the first
army hospital plane loaded with wounded soldiers from Karachi, India
to the United States in 1943.
Entering the army in 1943, Major
Pool Joined the 9fnd F. H. in 1944. Overseas four months, he is entitled to wear the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with one battle star and the Philippine
Liberation ribbon with one campaign
tar.
His wile Mrs. Patricia Pool, and two
children, Christopher and Julia Lawrence reside at 116 E. 91 Street,
New York. His mother, Mrs. J.

Back in the US he served as president of the New York Academy of Medicine in 1968 and 1969, and was awarded the president's medal by the James Ewing Society in 1960. John's service to Wilton and Norwalk, Conn., continued after his retirement. He maintained his interest in ethics, appearing before Wilton's ethics committee and working on behalf of patients' interests as a member of Norwalk Hospital's Ethics Committee.
John Lawrence Pool died on April 19, 2005, in Wilton, Connecticut, at the age of 97.
He will be greatly missed by all. His sons, Christopher and Martin; his daughter, Julia Ward; and their extended families survived him.
A memorial service was held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Wilton, CT., May 22, 2005.
