Harrison George "Harry" Hunt

Harrison George "Harry" Hunt was born on April 3, 1917, in New York to Ida Christina Lund, age 25, and Harrison George Hunt, age 28. He was a graduate of Harrison High School and in Rye his family lived at 135 Bradford Avenue.

Harry enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 13, 1940 and served during World War II. He was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941 when the Japanese attacked. He earned 11 battle stars, two medals for the Philippine Liberation, one for American Defense, the Accommodation Ribbon, Victory Bar and Good Conduct Medal.

Harry married Miss Jean Castle Cooper on September 14, 1946 in a double ring ceremony performed in All Saints' Episcopal Church, Harrison, NY by the Rev. George E. Keith, rector. They had one child during their marriage.

Still in service after his marriage, he attended Advance Fire Control School Washington, D. C.. Harry was honorably discharged August 13, 1948

In 1950, he and his family were living in North Hempstead, NY. Harry worked many years and retired from the Sperry Gyroscope Co. of Long Island.

In the late 1970's, he would move to Moravia, New York. He was a member of VFW Post 7127 of Moravia, the Moravia Sportsmen's Club and the National Rifle Association.

Harrison George "Harry" Hunt died on October 28, 1985, in Moravia, New York, at the age of 68.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his daughter, Deborah Hartman of Baldwinsville, and two grandchildren

Services were held at the Wade Funeral Home.
