Gaston Lalonde Fortin

Gaston Lalonde Fortin was born on July 23, 1899, in Honolulu, Hawaii to to Marie Graziella Lalonde and Sifroy Fortin. He was a graduate of McGill University and the Royal Military Academy, Canada. In Rye his family lived on Rye Road and were members of the Presbyterian Church.

Gaston married Elizabeth F Tate on March 28, 1930, in Larchmont, New York. They had two children during their marriage. Gaston was renown builder before the war, He was prominent in the building of Radio City, LaGuardia Airport and a number of other commercial developments in New York City.

Gaston served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He was a commander U.S.N.R. during World War II.

After the war he returned to Rye and was president of O'Brien and Fortin Construction Company, which developed North Manursing Island. He was a member of the American Yacht Club, Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club, the Canadian Club and the Coral Harbor Club. He also lived on North Manursing Island prior to moving to Pompano Beach in Florida.

Gaston L. Fortin, the developer of North Manursing Island, died Friday April 15, 1966 in Pompano Beach, Florida, at the age of 66.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Elizabeth Tate Fortin, a daughter, Mrs. Marie Beringer of Larchmont; a son Roger T. Fortin of Rye and eight grandchildren.

A requiem mass was held at the Church of the Resurrection.
