Charles Leonard Armstrong


Charles Leonard Armstrong was born 0n May 20, 1891 in Malden, MA to Sarah and Robert Armstrong.

Both his parents were born in Canada. He had two sisters Elizabeth and Ethel and in Rye the family lived at 91 Meadow St.

Charles enlisted on September 5, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY. His Draft Registration Card listed him as single, 26 years old and working as a carpenter.

He was tall with a medium build, blue eyes and light brown hair. Charles also was noted as having two crippled fingers on his left hand.

He served as a private in 85th Utilities Company of the 21st battalion at Camp Sevier, SC.

He was a skilled mechanic employed in contruction work as acting sergeant overseeing erection of new buildings.

Charles died of pneumonia at the Camp Sevier Base Hospital on December 29th, 1918.

He is buried at Greenwood Union Cemetery , Rye, NY.
