Women of World War II - Rye NY
The veterans featured on this page have been identified as the women who are listed on the Rye City Hall WWII Honor Roll. We have created a short biography for each of the 55 women honored. They served in the Army, Army Air Force, Navy, Marines and Red Cross. We also had one who served in the Royal Air Force and one in the Royal Canadian Airforce.
They were combat nurses, plane mechanics, meteorologists, pilots and Red Cross "Donut Dollies". Each answered the call to service and on average served two and one half years. They served at home in the U.S. and overseas in Europe and the Pacific. Some met their future husbands, some would make a career in the military and four would lose a brother who died in service during the war.
Learn who these veterans were, where they served, where they lived in Rye, where they went to school, and what became of them after their service.
These biographies were created to ensure that these women are no longer just a "Name On The Wall".
