Benjamin H. Ballard was born in New Jersey in 1920. In Rye his family lived at 66 Milton (Blindbrook Apartments) Road and were members of the Presbyterian Church. Benjamin enlisted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Ben joined the U. S. Army, serving overseas for over three years in the Aleutians and in China as a radio operator in the Air Corp before discharge in 1946 as a staff sergeant.
Benjamin Ballard Graduates from Brown University
Among the 250 Brown University seniors to receive their diplomas, Monday, was Benjamin H. Ballard, Jr. , who was awarded an A. B. degree in Political Science. Ballard came to Brown from Rye High School. He has been a member of the senior Jacket Committee and the Erasmians, parliamentary society. This year he was secretary of his fraternity, Theta Delta Chi. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin H. Ballard of Blind Brook Lodge

Benjamin H. Ballard, Jr., of Ross, died of natural causes on June 16, 2016. He was 96.
Born in New Jersey in 1920, Ben grew up in Rye, New York and graduated from Rye High School. On graduation from Brown University in 1942, Ben joined the U.S. Army, serving overseas for over three years in the Aleutians and in China as a radio operator in the Air Corp before discharge in 1946 as a staff sergeant.
Ben married Eloise Oldham, also of Rye, in 1950. They lived first in Sherborn, Massachusetts before moving west to San Rafael in 1957 and settling in Ross in 1961, where they raised their four children. Ben and Eli were married for over 66 years.
Ben was active in the marine electronics industry for many years, initially as Vice President and Sales Manager for Applied Electronics Company (''Apelco'') and later Konel Corporation. In 1969, Ben founded the B. H. Ballard Company, Inc., for over 25 years a leading industry manufacturers representative. Ben was a long time member of the San Francisco Yacht Club and the Veteran Wireless Operators Association. He was a runner until age 94.
Ben is survived by his wife Eloise, children Alison, Benjamin (Carolyn), Jonathan (Buffie) and David, and grandchildren Callie, Emmy, Jonathan and Lacey.
Services will be private.
