Cornelius W. Toner


Cornelius W. Toner was born on July 28, 1897, in Benwood, West Virginia, to William & Ellen McKelvey Toner. He was raised and educated in West Virginia and worked as a boilermaker.

He married Hazel Alice Hutchinson on September 12, 1928, in Valhalla, New York. They had one child during their marriage. In Rye his family lived at 61 Palisade Road and he had started work as a tree surgeon. His wife passed away August 27, 1933, leaving him a widowed father in the midst of the great depression.

Cornelius enlisted September 2, 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He rose to the rank of corporal and was honorably discharged on July 21, 1945.

Cornelius was a resident of White Plains most of his life, and was an avid bowler. Throughout the 1950's an 60's he bowled in hundreds tournaments and won many championships in the Central Western Leaugues. He remained a tree surgeon in Bronxville until his retirement in 1968.

Cornelius W Toner, 81, Millerton & White Plains, died Aug 20, 1978 at Salem Hills Health Related Facility in Millerton, New York. He had been married to the late Alice H Hutchinson.

At the time of his death, he was survived by a daughter, Jean DeWitt, Millerton; two grandsons, two great grandchildren.
