Edward Sayre Wicks
Edward Sayre Wicks was born on January 14, 1910, in Ithaca, New York, to Lillian May Thomas, age 33, and Arthur L Wicks. He grew up in Ithaca the youngest of five children and had three brothers and one sister.
Edward married Mildred Virginia Price in Charlottesville, Virginia, on February 6, 1937. They would have two children and both would graduate from Rye High School. In Rye the family lived at several locations including 46 Centre Street and they were members of the Presbyterian Church.
Edward enlisted in the military on October 28, 1943, when he was 33 years old. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His service number was 8160810 and he served at the US Naval Hospital in Newport, RI. (See Muster Rolls)
After the war, he returned to Rye, In 1950, he was working as a caretaker on a private estate at 84 Milton Road. Ed would soon be an entrepreneur and for many years was owner/operator of a hardware store. In 1966 the family would relocate to Cos Cob, CT
He retired and moved to Central Florida in 1981. His wife Mildred Virginia passed away on January 9, 1982, in Orange, Florida, at the age of 66. They had been married 44 years. He then married Florence Jane Peterson in Orange, Florida, on July 5, 1983, when he was 73 years old.
Edward Sayre "Ed" Wicks died on August 31, 1999, in Apopka, Florida, when he was 89 years old.
He was born in Ithaca, N.Y., He was a member of First Baptist Church of Apopka and a Navy veteran of World War II.
At the time of his death, survivors included: wife, Jane; son, Edward, California; daughter, Norma Lee DeRoberts, New York; five grandchildren. Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, Apopka.
