 Edwin Lincoln Whiffen
Edwin Lincoln Whiffen was born in Port Chester, New York on February 12, 1928, to Margaret Isabel Hogg and Edwin James Whiffen. He was a Rye High School graduate, class of 1944. In Rye his family lived at 22 Locust Ave.
Edwin enlisted July 27, 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His service number was 717 40 35 and his active duty unit was (NAS) Bermuda.
Active duty units at Naval Air Station (NAS) Bermuda (1940-1995) included US Navy patrol squadrons (like VP-8 and VP-9 on rotation), Marine Corps Barracks, Naval Facility (NAVFAC) Bermuda for SOSUS, Coast Guard air detachments, and various support units, focusing on anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and search & rescue due to Bermuda's strategic Atlantic location
Edwin was honorably discharged February 11, 1949.
He earned a bachelor's degree from the General Motors Institute and a Master's degree from the University of Southern California. He married Jean Rauch on Valentines Day, February 14, 1954 in Flushing, MI and together they raised four boys in Fullerton, CA.
Edwin worked as an engineer in the aerospace industry for thirty-five years before retiring to San Clemente. Edwin loved playing bridge, reading, and traveling the world aboard cruise ships. He was a member of Dana Point's Volunteer's In Police Services (VIPS) program and the San Clemente Rotary.
Edwin Whiffen passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, and son, Richard. At the time of his death, he was survived by his beloved Betty and three children, James of San Marcos, John of Fountain Valley, and Charles of Glendale, AZ; as well as eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held December 18, 2010 at Lesneski Mortuary, 640 South El Camino Real, San Clemente.
Interment followed in Loma Vista Memorial Park,
