 Francis W. Hennis
Francis "Walter" Hennis was born on December 20, 1923, in Port Chester, New York, to Kathryn Hennis, age 24, and Walter A Hennis, age 24. He attended Rye schools and was a Rye High School graduate, class of 1942 with a specialty in music. In Rye his family lived at 46 Oakland Gardens.
Walter enlisted January 26, 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. At the time of his enlistment he was attending Ithaca State College. He served as a musician 2/c, with the U. S. Naval Air Station Band at Beaufort, S C. (SEE NAVY MUSTER ROLLS) He was honorably discharged December 22, 1945 and later served in the Korean War.
After the war, Walter attended the Miami University in Ohio, where he married Elvera Vilma Hennis. Elvera passed away in 1963
Walter was a lifelong music teacher. He taught music in several Missouri schools including: Ossian, Waucoma, McGregor, Clermont and others. He was also employed as a salesman by Kephart's Music Center in Decorah.
On January 11, 1964 he married Joan Bohr in St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church at Ossian, MO. For 20 years they lived in Springfield, MO where he was employed by Hoover Music.
Francis Walter Hennis died Saturday, May 26, 1990 in Lester Cox Medical Center at Springfield, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Elvera. Surviving were his wife Joan. Casket bearers were Cyril, Jerome, Vernon and James Bohr, Ralph Moellers and Eugene Novak.

Funeral services for F. Walter Hennis of Springfield, MO were held Wednesday, May 30, 1990. The Schutte Funeral Home in Postville was in charge. Rev. Paul Otting officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
