Hugh Harold Gibb

Hugh Harold Gibb was born on December 30, 1906, in Drayton, Ontario, Canada, to Mary Susana Brimblecombe, age 23, and Hugh Cunningham Gibb, age 34. He graduated from Ontario public schools, and received undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Toronto.

Dr. Gibb moved to the United States in the late 1920's, completing an internship at United Hospital Medical in Port Chester and a residency program at Women's Hospital in New York City.

He then opened a practice in Rye and he lived at 131 Purchase St. and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Hugh served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the the U.S. Army Medical Corps serving in India.

Major Hugh H. Gibb, U S. Medical Corps, is back in the United States after twenty-nine months in India . He is at Fort Dix and is expected home momentarily. Mr Gibb has an apartment in Highland Hall.

After the war, he moved to Port Chester, where he opened a practice. He married Virginia Eleanor Johnson on November 8, 1961, in Rye, New York. She died in 1986. Dr. Gibb worked as a general surgeon, in addition to his obstetrics-gynecology practice. He retired in the early 1980s.

He was a fellow of the American Academy of Surgeons and a member of several other medical organizations. He was a member of Rye Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Hugh Harold Gibb obstetrician and longtime Port Chester resident died Monday March 6, 1995 at home. He was 88.

At the time of his death, he was survived by five nieces and two nephews. Two brothers, Robert Gibb and Kenneth Gibb, and one sister, Susan Gibb, died earlier.
