Irving W Wood was born in San Francisco, California April 28, 1926 to Irving and Grace Ford Wood. He had two sisters Janet and Judith and in Rye his family lived at 2 Ridgewood Drive. Irving was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1944.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Service Number 7131405

Four Rye Students Pass Navy V-12 Examinations
Four Rye High School students passed the Navy V-12 examinations last week and are now awaiting assignment to colleges to commence their training. They are Alfred Potter, Robert Gray, Richard Hoilister and Irving Wood. Hoilister also passed the V-5 course for the Navy Air Corps and will enter that branch of the service. Wood passed the examination for the radio technician course.

Irving ended up serving on the USS Roy O. Hale (DE-336). She was an Edsall-class destroyer escort that served with the U.S. Navy during and after World War II. During the war, the ship primarily operated in the Atlantic, serving as a convoy escort to protect against German U-boats. It escorted several convoys to ports in North Africa, Italy, and France.

Irving served from July 21, 1944 until his honorable discharge on June 4, 1946.

He married Ruth Merrick Semans June 21,1952 in Greene, Ohio.

Irving W Wood died February 4, 2002 in Northport, NY.
