James Clifford Sniffen was born in New York in 1920. In Rye his family lived on Forrest Ave and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. James served as an officer in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

James C. Sniffen LITCHFIELD-James C. Sniffen, 54, of Maple Street, died Wednesday in Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington, after a long illness. A native of Port Chester, N.Y., he lived here since 1966. He was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Shirley Holman Sniffen of Litchfield; a son, John Sniffen of Litchfield; and a daughter, Barbara Sniffen of Litchfield. The funeral: Saturday, 2 p.m., St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Litchfield. Burial: East Cemetery, Litchfield. Calling hours: today, Sepples Funeral Home, West Street, Litchfield, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
