James Lockwood Wilson
James Lockwood Wilson was born on March 18, 1915, in Brooklyn, New York
to Nan Lockwood, age 34, and James Wright Wilson He was reared in Westchester County in Rye, N.Y. and graduated from Yale University in 1937. In Rye his family lived on Hillside Rd. Before the war, James was employed at William W Fitzhugh, Inc. in New York City.
James enlisted and served in the American Field Service during World War II. He was a volunteer ambulance driver in North Africa with the British 8th Army.
During World War II, the American Field Service (AFS) was a volunteer ambulance corps that transported over 400,000 wounded Allied soldiers, primarily serving with the British 8th Army in North Africa, the Middle East, Italy, and Europe. Comprised of 2,500 volunteer drivers, often college students, the AFS functioned independently through donations and volunteer funding, becoming a vital humanitarian service from 1939-1945.James L Wilson Saw Service with British and Fighting French.

Sunday after more than a year's active service as ambulance driver in
the American Field Service, now disbanded. He has been in active service
with the British Eighth Army and the
Fighting French.
Mrs. Charles F. Roberts, Mrs. Wilson's daughter, and her little daughter,
Carol, are making their home with
Mrs. Wilson while Lt. Roberts, U. S
N. R. is on active duty

After serving, he married Miss Renate D John on April 14, 1949 in Manhattan and they would have three daughters. James had a lengthy career in sales. Upon retiring, he and his wife relocated to Raleigh, N.C. for approximately twenty years before relocating again to Richmond, Va. in 2002.
James L. Wilson, age 89, of Richmond, Va., died of pneumonia and complications from Alzheimer's disease on July 5, 2004. He was predeceased by his wife Renate.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his three daughters, Laurie W. Lee of Hillsborough, N.C., Robin Wilson of Richmond, Va., and Holly Wilson of Allentown, Pa.; and two granddaughters.
A memorial service was held at the St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Richmond, and he was buried in Newell Cemetery, Stanton, New Jersey.
