 John Alexander Fitzner John Alexander Fitzner. Sr was born on July 27, 1921, in Mamaroneck, New York, to Helen Dalmer, age 19, and Alexander Henry Fitzner, age 22. He had two brothers and three sisters and in Rye his family lived at 4 Hilltop Place.
Before entering the armed forces, he was affiliated the Manufacturing Trust of Company, New York City. John enlisted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant and was assigned to hospitals in the southern US.
 John married Miss Barbara Mills daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mills of Sylvania, Ga. The double ring ceremony took place April 8, 1944 at the post chapel of Foster General Hospital at Jackson, Miss. Chaplain C. T. Stribling officiated.
After the war, the couple made their home in Sylvania, Georgia and raised two sons. In 1950 John was working as a bookkeeper and retired as a Vice President of the Bank of Screven County. He was a member of the Sylvania First Baptist Church.
Mr. John Alexander Fitzner, Sr., age 82, died Thursday, May 06, 2004 in Sylvania, Georgia at the Screven County Hospital.
At the time of his death, survivors included his wife, Barbara Mills Fitzner, Sylvania; two sons and daughters-in-law, Alexander Mills and Cheryl Fitzner of Rome, GA, and John Alexander, Jr. and Deanne Fitzner, Sylvania; one sister, Helen Carol Williamson, Bassett, VA; one brother, William L. Fitzner, St. Petersburg, FL; six grandchildren, John A. Fitzner, III, Swainsboro, Alexander Mills Fitzner, Jr., Rome, Anna Monroe Fitzner, Rome, Stephen Douglas Fitzner, Sylvania, Andrew Scott Fitzner, Sylvania, and Lecie Helen Fitzner, Sylvania; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Service were held at the Sylvania First Baptist Church and burial at Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
