 John Chetwood Elliott
John Chetwood Elliott was born on February 5, 1926, in in Rye, N.Y., to Julia Reynolds Hall, age 24, and Chetwood Elliott, age 31. He had a brother Harry, a sister Julia and along with his cousin Elliot Eakin, the family lived at 2 Stuyvesant Avenue in Rye. John attended Tabor Academy in MA, graduating in 1944.
He enlisted in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an instructor for Navy pilots. After his discharge he attended Bridgeport University, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in engineering.
John married Nancy Scofield on February 18, 1956 and they would have two children. The marriage ended in divorce in 1973. John Lived in Darien, CT and maintained a second home in Wardsboro, Vt., for many years.
He worked for Marine Management Systems as a vice president before his retirement. An avid lifetime sailor, he was a member of the Cruising Club of America.
John Chetwood Elliott, 64, died January 1, 1991 at Stamford Hospital.
At the time of his death, survivors included two sons, Mark C. Elliott of Burlington, Vt., and Jeffrey C. Elliott of Pawling, N.Y.; two daughters, Elizabeth Smidt Bliss and Joanie Hutchinson Bliss, both of Darien; one brother, Harry B. Elliot of Dorset, Vt.; and two grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Dodie E. Thompson.
A private memorial service was held today at the Noroton Presbyterian Church.
